This is education, not medical advice

The Fourteen-Night Sleep Plan provides general educational information about infant and child sleep. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Using it does not create any clinical or professional relationship between you and us. We are not doctors, pediatricians, health visitors, nurses or sleep clinicians.

It does not replace professional care

Nothing here is a substitute for advice from a qualified health professional who knows your child. Never delay seeking that advice, or disregard it, because of something you have read here.

Speak to a health professional about any of these

The assessment screens for several of these and will stop and refer you. That screen is a prompt to seek advice, not a clinical assessment, and it cannot rule anything out.

Age limits

This programme is for children aged six months to five years. It is not suitable below six months. None of the settling approaches it contains has been tested in infants under six months. A meta-analysis of nine randomised trials covering 1,656 mother-infant pairs found no evidence that behavioural sleep intervention in the first six months reduces how often infants wake. We do not sell the programme for that age.

What this programme does not cover

It is not designed to address, diagnose or manage obstructive sleep apnoea, severe reflux, respiratory difficulty, or the risk of sudden infant death. If your child snores most nights, has pauses in their breathing, or is in obvious distress during sleep, stop and make an appointment with your doctor.

It also provides no nutritional or lactation advice. Decisions about overnight feeding and weaning belong to your child's health professional, based on your child's growth and needs.

Safe sleep is your responsibility

Following this programme does not change your responsibility for your child's sleep environment. Keep it consistent with the safe sleep guidance for your country: firm flat surface, on their back, nothing soft in the crib, not overheated. In the United States that is the American Academy of Pediatrics 2022 recommendations; in the United Kingdom, the Lullaby Trust and the NHS. The two differ on some points, particularly bed-sharing.

Big Three Commerce Ltd is not liable for outcomes arising from a sleep environment that does not meet the safe sleep guidance applicable where you live.

Night feeds

Nothing in this programme determines whether your child still needs a feed overnight. That depends on their weight, growth and daytime intake, and it is a clinical judgement for your doctor. We do not publish age thresholds for night weaning, deliberately.

Results

Between 3% and 16% of parents in the published trials stopped partway through, depending on the method. Individual results vary with the child, the approach chosen and how consistently it is followed. No specific sleep outcome is guaranteed.

The evidence

We publish the full evidence base free and without signup, including the limitations and the findings that complicate the picture. We would rather you read it than take our word for anything.

Affiliate disclosure

If you arrived here through someone else's link

Some people who link to this site receive a commission when someone buys through their link or code. If you used a partner code, the person who gave it to you probably earns a commission on your purchase.

It does not change what you pay. The code reduces the price; it does not increase it. You pay less than someone arriving without one.

We tell you this because it is required and because you should know it.

What a commission does not buy

Affiliates do not write our content, choose what the programme recommends, or influence what the evidence page says. Nobody pays to be recommended anywhere on this site, and we do not earn commission on any product we mention. We do not recommend any particular crib, monitor, sleeping bag or sleep aid, and we are not paid by anyone who sells them.

If you promote this programme

You must clearly and prominently disclose that you receive a commission, in every post, video or email where you link to us. In the United States this is required by the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides. In the United Kingdom it is required under CAP rules and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations.

"Clearly and prominently" means visible without clicking "more", at the start of a caption rather than buried in hashtags.

You must not claim results the published research does not support; claim or imply the programme is medically endorsed, clinically approved, or recommended by any health body; present the programme as suitable for babies under six months; invent or embellish personal results; or use paid search advertising on our brand name. Doing any of these ends the partnership and forfeits unpaid commission.
